The Massachusetts Alliance of Visually Impaired Students (MAVIS) is a non-profit organization committed to giving visually impaired students in New England and throughout the USA a strong network of support and a powerful public voice on issues like textbook accessibility and fairness in standardized testing. We support OurMoneyToo.org, a volunteer group working to make U.S. paper money accessible by feel.
MAVIS is an affiliate of the Bay State Council Of The Blind
(BSCB). BSCB is affiliated with the American Council of
the Blind (ACB), the nation’s consumer organization of visually
impaired people, founded in 1961.
MAVIS held its first meeting on November 4, 2000. Since that time,
we have sought out blind and sighted people who care about blind
civil rights, from under age 16 to over 50, from high schools,
community colleges, universities, graduate schools, and beyond,
and from all over New England and the USA. MAVIS members
represent a wide array of interests ranging from French to music
to psychology to computer science to law.
