This page contains a list of blindness-related resources within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This is not a complete list of blindness resources in Massachusetts, but we will continue to update and improve it.
As we mentioned on our home page we are an affiliate of the Bay State Council of the Blind.
The Massachusetts Association for Parents of the Visually Impaired is a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing resources relating to visually impaired children.
WGBH access services for people with disabilaties has listings of video-described programming on WGBH, described home videos for sale, described movies in theaters, and information about descriptive video.
The Visually Impaired and Blind User Group is dedicated to advancing access to the world of computer applications by visually impaired and blind people.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority website provides schedules for the subway, commuter rail lines, and buses. You can also use this site to get information about "The Ride," a service that will transport people with disabilaties in areas that are covered by the MBTA.
The Massachusetts Assistive Technology Partnership provides recommendations about assistive technology for people with disabilaties, training on how to use disability-related technology, legal services, and more.
The Carroll Center for the Blind
provides computer training, independent living skills training, and more.
The Massachusetts Commission for the
Blind is the Massachusetts state rehabilatation agency for people who are
blind or visually impaired. Here is a list of all
the local branches of MCB.
The National Braille Press provides braille
transcription services and produces and sells books and magazines in braille, in
large print, and on computer disk.
Massachusetts Association For The Blind and Vision Community Services primarily
focus on the needs of older blind people, although
they do offer some services (such as Braille transcription and a
recording studio) which might be helpful to younger members.
The Talking Information Center
is a radio-reading network for visually impaired citizens of the commonwealth. This network reads newspapers, magazines and books to blind people seven days per week, 24 hours per day. Some of the radio stations that carry this service are:
WATD 95.9 FM Marshfield, WVBF 1530 AM Middleboro, WBIM 91.5 Bridgewater, WSHL 91.3 FM Easton, WDJM 91.3 Framingham, WJUL 91.5 Lowell and WDJM 91.3 Framingham.
